NYK Joins Zero Carbon Shipping

NYK announced them officially becoming a founding member of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. The center plans to open at the end of the year. Further it promotes decarbonization by shifting to alternative fuels by the maritime industry.

NYK intent to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives under the medium-term plan “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green”. As a socially responsible organisation, NYK positioned climate change as one of the company’s most important issues. Hence the company is working towards to implement alternative fuels such as LNG or hydrogen to aid marine-fuel decarbonization.

Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is a non-profit, commercial foundation. It is founded by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), A.P. Moller-Maersk, Cargill, MAN Energy Solutions, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NYK, and Siemens.

The research center has established in accordance with the IMO’s ambition to reduce GHG emissions from shipping by at least 50% by 2050.
